Abstract:
In the context of globalization of economic exchanges, the use of conventional regulation through the production of legal norms is most often ineffective in fighting environmental damage and human rights abuses generated by the activities of large international groups (major corporations). Therefore, considering the inadequacy of the law to forbid unacceptable and irresponsible abuses, the question of the use of ethics as a new normative framework for globalized economy deserves to be taken into consideration. Based on a conception of ethics developed by the ISO 26000 standard, an international reference framework for the social responsibility of organizations, the article looks at international standardization, its relationship with the law and its expansion in business and society. The standardization of universal ethical principles, considered as an instrument of international regulation, seems to be more to support the behavior of organizations subjected to the negative effects of uncontrollable globalization.
