Abstract:
Liberal theory, dominant for many decades, had led to making companies apolitical. However, we are witnessing a reconsideration of this approach. This renewal is partly explained by the new societal challenges of today that are more pregnant. Some companies seek to satisfy them to meet the expectations of their parties. Others simply seek to comply with them in a desire for a shared societal ideal. Here, we wish to determine the modalities currently being renewed for the political role of companies through mission-driven companies (a mechanism resulting from the PACTE law of 2019 in France). We illustrate this re-politicization of companies through the case of athletes. The financialization of sporting activities in recent decades tends to give way to committed political projects that we can contextualize with the case of the Niort Rugby Club.
